Chester is a dual purpose Chesapeake that we imported from Wales.

He was bred by Janet Morris of Penrose Chesapeakes.

Chester has just completed seven full shooting seasons where he has picked up on driven shoots, retrieved many pheasants out rough shooting and many a duck while wildfowling around the Longford/Roscommon Shannon region.

He has also competed in both shows and working tests as summarised below

He was placed 2nd in the Puppy class at the UK Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club's Spring Working Test in April 2003 and in April 2007 won the Open Stake at the UK Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club's Spring Working Test as well as the IWS Clubs Minor Breeds Working Test held in Blessingboune Manor. In July 2004 in the UK he gained his American Kennel Club Working Dog Certificate (WD) and narrowly missed out on the Working Dog Excellent (WDX) and Working Dog Qualified (WDQ) Certificates. In January 2008 he Field Trial Qualified under Irish Kennel Club rules. In September 2010 Chester was in such good form that we entered him in the Unclassified (Open) Class in the UK CBRC Autumn Cold Game Test where he came a very creditable 4th at eight and a half years old.

He was also made up into an Irish Show Champion in March/April '07 as well as winning the Open Dog class for the breed at Crufts 2008. He also has a few Group Placings in Championship Shows to his name. In May 2008 he won Best of Breed at the Scottish Kennel Clubs Championship show earning a Challenge Certificate in the process. He followed this up with Reserve Dog and Reserve Challenge Cert at the UK Club Specialty in July.
In August we travelled with Chester to the NGA Championship Show where he gained his second Challenge Certificate while going Best of Breed and followed this up by being shortisted in the Gundog Group. We returned again in September to the Driffield Champ Show which was where the final Challenge Cert for the year would be given to Best of Breed, Chester won Best of Breed gaining his third Challenge Certificate and we await confirmation from the UK Kennel Club that he is now a UK Show Champion. Chester then went into the group ring where Judge Gordon Haran placed him third making him only the 6th Chesapeake ever to achieve a Group placing at a UK Championship Show. What a year it's been.

In July 2010 he was Best Veteran Dog and Reserve Best Dog at the CBRC Championship Show at eight and a bit years old. He followed this up in his next outing in September 2010 at the Driffield Champ Show where he won Best Dog and Reserve Best of Breed and Reserve Challenge Certificate.

Chester's  first litter of pups was in 2008, pictures of the pups are in our photo gallery.
