Winnie was born in May 2005, she was bred by Christine Mayhew (Arnac Bay Chesapeakes) in the south of England.
We collected her and brought her home in mid-July 2005. She settled in quickly with our other dogs and is very people orientated.
Her mother is Arnac Bay Pride, a multi winning bitch whose progeny have excelled in both the working arena and the show ring. Winnie's father is Pond Hollow Bering Sea (Bery), he is a US Champion who Janet Morris brought to the UK for six months to improve and expand the gene pool of Chesapeakes in the UK.
Winnie has been very successful in the Show Ring taking second at seven months old in the Puppy Stakes at an Open Show out of an entry of approx seventy puppies of differing breeds. She followed this up in July 2006 by getting Reserve Best in Show at the UK Chesapeake Clubs' Annual Show out of an entry of more than sixty Chessies, she was only fifteen months old when achieving this. In Crufts in March 2007 she was Reserve Best Bitch of the breed and followed this up in Crufts 2008 by winning Best Bitch of the breed and earning the first ever Challenge Certificate awarded to a bitch of the breed. In Crufts 2009 she took the Reserve Challenge Certificate and in Crufts 2010 once again won the Bitch Challenge Certificate. She has also been reserve CC winner at SKC 2009 and NGA 2010. She was also Best of Breed at the European Winners Show 2009.
She has completed four full shooting seasons where she has picked up on driven shoots, gone wildfowling on the Shannon and walk up pheasant shooting. She has also competed successfully in Working Tests taking a 1st at the IWS Club's Minor Breed Test in April '07. In January 2008 she Field Trial Qualified under Irish Kennel Club rules. In September 2008 Winnie was placed 3rd in Open at the CBRC Autumn Cold Game Test and in April 2010 she was placed 4th in Fermanagh Gundog Club's AV Retriever Novice Working test out of an entry of 30.
